This beautiful lady has back to back hit to her name. So what if she isn’t exactly known for her acting and can’t speak Hindi properly? She takes in about 3 crores a movie.

3. Kareena Kapoor:

Kareena Kapoor

Kareena Kapoor

She won over our hearts with Jab We Met and shocked us with Tashan, but this bundle of talent is surely a force to be reckoned. Though many hits to her name, she charges a modest amount of 3.5 to 4 crores.

2. Priyanka Chopra:

Dostana and Fashion happened. And then life changed for her. She has gathered quite a lot of fan following, and is very popular. She has hiked her price to about 5 crores after her successful films.

1. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan:

Aishwarya Rai

Aishwarya Rai

Though not on the scene for quite a long time, this green eyed actress demands quite a high price. The Bachchan bahurani did burn her hands in Hollywood, with films like Mistress of Spice to her credit, but she has hiked her fees to about 6 crores. If she manages to do a Jodhaa Akbar, then it should be fine. Otherwise 6 crores for an Umraao Jaan or The Last Legion does seem a bit extravagant.

We look at some of the hot firang babes who can easily passed off as true blue Indians.

Priyanka Chopra Profile

priyanka chopra

priyanka chopra

Priyanka Chopra was born July 18, 1982 is an Indian actress and former Miss World. Before starting her acting career, she worked as amodel and gained fame after winning the Miss World title in 2000.

Chopra made her acting debut with the 2002 Tamil film Thamizhan. The following year, she made her Bollywood debut with The Hero: Love Story of a Spy and followed it with the commercially successful Andaaz, for which she won a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. In 2004 she became the second woman to win the Filmfare Best Villain Award for her critically acclaimed performance in Aitraaz. Chopra would later have commercial success with films like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), Krrish (2006), her biggest commercial success so far, and Don – The Chase Begins Again (2006).  Chopra earned a Filmfare Best Actress Award for her portrayal of a model in Fashion (2008) and has thus established herself as one of the leading contemporary actresses in Bollywood.

Early life

Chopra was born in Jamshedpur, Jharkand to Ashok Chopra and Madhu Akhauri, both doctors by profession. Chopra spent her childhood in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh; Newton, Massachusetts; and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her father was in the army and thus her family moved quite frequently. Her father hailed from a family of Punjabi Khatri origin, settled in Bareilly and her mother comes from a Bihari Kayastha family settled in Jamshedpur. She also has a brother, Siddharth, who is seven years younger than she is.

Chopra studied at St. Maria Goretti in Bareilly and La Martiniere Girls’ School in Lucknow as a young girl. These frequent re-locations took place as Ashok was a doctor in the Indian Army. She subsequently re-located to the U.S. where she studied in Newton North High School in Newton, Massachusetts and then in John F. Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She returned to India and did her high school at Army School in Bareilly. She began college at Jai Hind College in Mumbai but left after winning the Miss World pageant.

Miss World

Chopra was crowned Miss India World and later Miss World in 2000. In the same year, Lara Dutta and Dia Mirza, both also from India, won the Miss Universe and Miss Asia Pacific crowns, in a rare triple victory for one country.

When Chopra won the Miss World crown, she became the fifth Indian woman to win the title, and the fourth Indian woman to win in a span of seven years.

Acting career

Chopra made her debut in the 2002 Tamil film Thamizhan playing the role of Priya, the love interest of the protaginist in the film played by Vijay. In 2003, she appeared in her first Bollywood film, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy directed by Anil Sharma, in a supporting role as a doctor named Shaheen. Despite being one of the highest grossing films of that year, the film was given a below average status. Later that year she appeared in Raj Kanwar‘s Andaaz opposite Akshay Kumar. The film turned out to be a box office success, earning her a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award and a nomination forFilmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.

Her next few films released in 2004 like Plan, Kismat and Asambhav performed poorly at the box office. Later that year she appeared in David Dhawan‘s romantic comedy Mujhse Shaadi Karogi playing the role of a young fashion designer Rani along with Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, the film turned out to be the third highest grossing film of that year. She next starred in Aitraaz, a Hindi remake of Disclosure. It was her first negative role. Her performance won critical acclaim and earned a Filmfare Best Villain Award. She also received a second nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for the role. In the same year, she participated in a world tour titled Temptations 2004 with other Bollywood actors, including Shahrukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta and Arjun Rampal.

In 2005, several of her films were released, all of which did not do well at the box office.

In 2006, Chopra starred in two of the most successful films of the year – Krrish and Don – The Chase Begins Again.

Nikhil Advani‘s ensemble piece, Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love was Chopra’s first release in 2007. The movie failed to do well at the box office.[16] Chopra’s next release, Big Brother also underperformed.

In 2008, Chopra featured in six films. Her first four films, Love Story 2050, God Tussi Great Ho, Chamku and Drona, failed to do well. Chopra’s fifth release of the year, Madhur Bhandarkar‘s Fashionwas a critical success. The film revolved around the fashion world and Chopra’s role was that of an ambitious model. Her performance in the film was appreciated and earned her several awards for Best Actress including the Filmfare Best Actress Award. Chopra’s final release of the year was Tarun Mansukhani‘s romantic comedy Dostana. The film was a moderate financial success.

In 2009 she appeared in Vishal Bharadwaj‘s Kaminey alongside Shahid Kapoor playing a marathi girl named Sweety. Her performance in the film was described by critic Taran Adarsh: “Priyanka is first-rate. She’s so much in sync with her character. Also, she gets the Maharashtrian accent perfect”. Later this year she is going to appear in Ashutosh Gowariker‘s What’s Your Raashee? and Jugal Hansraj‘s Pyaar Impossible.

10 Most Expensive Bollywood Films

Since big budget is the mantra for success nowadays, let us have a look at the Bollywood biggies whose budgets have touched the skies.

10. Jodhaa Akbar

jodha akbar

jodha akbar

Ashutosh Gowariker’s gargantuan epic based on Mughal emperor Akbar’s life and his relationship with his Hindu wife Jodhaabai costed about 40 crores. Elaborate sets, huge war scenes and Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai as stars push the budget upwards.

9. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

K3G

Karan Johar’s multi star studded film had Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, SRK, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor. The film was shot in the US and UK, apart from India, and with designer wear and huge sets, it was one of the most expensive movies made during its time. It had a budget of about 42 crores.

8. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna

Karan Johar again, this time minus Kareena, Hrithik, Kajol but including Rani Mukherji, Abhishek Bachchan and Priety Zinta made the whole of his movie in his favourite location, Manhattan, in New York. Thus, the budget was bound to shoot up just like the New York skyscrapers, to about 44 crores. Though the film did not much on the lines of a story, it did have a good music score, always a presence in a Karan Johar movie.

7. Om Shanti Om

om_shanti_om

Farah Khan’s comical and over-the-top take on Bollywood was a colorful extravaganza filled with technical mastery. With SRK and Deepika in lead roles, the film was famous for its songs (the one with 31 stars from the film industry) and its reincarnation theme. It cost about 45 crores, out of which a large chunk must have surely been allotted to the publicity campaign, which was extensive.

6. Singh is Kinng

Vipul Shah’s comedy flick involving a happy go lucky sardar was shot entirely at foreign locations, with some reverts to India. The hit jodi of Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar spelled magic at the box office. Snoop Dogg also sung a song for the film, which costed about 50 crores.

5. Krrish

krrish

Rakesh Roshan’s sequel to Koi Mil Gaya was replete with stunts and special effects. The film also involved a lot of foreign shoots and was packaged by special effects people brought in from Hollywood. This Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra starrer cost about 50 crores.

4. The Hero: Love Story of a Spy

The Hero

The Hero

This Anil Sharma film had Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta, and Sunny Deol was the most expensive film of its time. It did quite a decent amount of business, given the performances and the plot was nothing to brag about. It cost about 55 crores.

3. Kambakht Ishq

Kambakht Ishq

Kambakht Ishq

Mind-numbing storyline (or the lack of it), below the belt jokes, Hollywood stars with no roles to play but eye candy, and vulgar show of skin characterized this movie. But the shooting was in exotic locales and the start studded cast and the hugely extensive (and forceful) publicity campaign ensured that the budget touched 60 crores.

2. Ghajini

ghajini

ghajini

Aamir Khan’s remake of the smash South Indian movie made huge profits for him, raking in about 180 crores in revenue. The movie itself is a really bad remake of the awesomely made Memento. The movie cost about 65 crores, which will surely include the nationwide PR programme, which also involved some bizarre concepts like giving the signature Ghajini haircut outside theaters and the war of words between SRK and Aamir.

1. Love Story 2050

love-story-2050

love-story-2050

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we are at no. 1. Harry Baweja’s launch vehicle for his son Harman, was packed with blue sets, special effects and a robot called QT (who proved to be a better actor than Harman). We saw him dance (Harman that is), we saw him trying to act and we saw Priyanka Chopra in red hair. The film promised to be a sci-fi extravaganza but turned out to be a damp squid. But it cost daddy Harry a whopping 80 crores.
